The aim of Wells Cathedral Chorister Trust is to make choral training open to many more promising young singers, regardless of whether their parents can afford the fees required for a private education. The Church of England has contributed substantially to this cause, but we want to give the opportunity for choral training to more children from a wider range of backgrounds.

To achieve this goal, we are seeking donations and endowments to create
a fund large enough to provide scholarships and bursaries in perpetuity.
This will finance the complete education of selected individuals and ensure that
no chorister is barred from this opportunity by lack of money.

The Case for Support

For centuries, the sound of choirs has been at the heart of the worship of our cathedrals, conveying a profound sense of spirituality and an emotional transcendence that is seldom available elsewhere. Anyone can walk freely into a Wells Cathedral service any day of the week and be instantly transported away from the stresses of the outside world by the sheer quality of the music.

Wells Cathedral Chorister Trust wants to widen access to this rich musical heritage so that any child from anywhere in the country can benefit from it and take it into their future life and career.
